Itinerary

Spend the day on this small group tour with your professional guide exploring the diverse natural attractions and wildlife of Kangaroo Island, one of Australia’s premium nature-based destinations. Enjoy short walks, lunch and close-up wildlife encounters while learning about the history and nature of this amazing island.

Departing from Sea Dragon after breakfast, our day of adventure begins travelling west across the island towards the first stop, Flinders Chase National Park.

Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife on the roadsides as you drive through a variety of vegetative areas, viewing the rejuvenation of native bush flora from the devastating bushfires of 2019/2020. The morning will be spent at known attractions in the park, namely Admirals Arch, where you will spot the Long-nosed fur seals relaxing or playing in rock pools as well as great views of the wild Southern Ocean. See if you can spot any whales during the winter months!

After you manage to leave the magnificence of Admiral’s Arch, Remarkable Rocks will give you views of the rugged coastline in this diverse national park. The amazing rock formations and distinctive red rocks are a photographer’s delight.

Learn about the early maritime history of this wild environment, all the while, spotting other native animal species including echidnas, kangaroos, and a range of birds and reptiles. Did you know that Kangaroo Island has its own kangaroo? A sub-species of the Western Grey Kangaroo, the Kangaroo Island kangaroo is darker brown in colour, shorter and stockier, with the thickest fur of all kangaroos.

Keep your eyes peeled for Rosenberg Goannas lazing in the sun as we return to the vehicle and head towards Seal Bay Conservation Park, stopping for either a picnic-style lunch in our own private sheep shearing shed or at Vivonne Bay General Store – their famous whiting burger is absolutely a must try with gluten-free and vegetarian options available. After this tasty interlude, you will continue towards Seal Bay.

Seal Bay Conservation Park is home of the endangered Australian sea lion. There are only an estimated 9,000 sea lions left and Seal Bay is the second largest colony of this species. Walk through the untouched sand dune system and along the pristine beach with your experienced guide or knowledgeable Park Ranger for approximately an hour, learning all about these beautiful mammals.

On the return to your accommodation, arriving at approximately 5.30pm, you will have time to freshen up before dinner in our restaurant with fabulous views over Pink Bay and the Backstairs Passage. Tammar wallabies may be out and about on the way back to your accommodation.

Please note that the order of activities may vary depending on group size and seasonality. An itinerary with the order of tours and inclusions during your stay will be provided to you upon check-in at Sea Dragon.
