How to get to Kangaroo Island
A quick flight or a worthwhile exploration, the choice is yours
Commercial Flights
Flights to Kangaroo Island are available six to seven days a week from Adelaide with Qantas and arrive at Kingscote Airport which is less than an hour from Sea Dragon.
Private / Charter Flight
Charter Flights from Adelaide with light aircraft or helicopters can also be arranged with the price on application.
Ferry
Ferry services depart the mainland from Cape Jervis and arrive at the Kangaroo Island ferry terminal at Penneshaw. Sealink operate multiple daily services all year round which takes approx. 45 minutes. Brand new vessels will be launched in early 2025. From Penneshaw, it is a 25 minute drive to Sea Dragon.
Guided tour (shared or private)
Cape Jervis is located 90 minutes south of Adelaide by road through the Fleurieu Peninsula and takes in some of the most beautiful coastal and Australian bush scenery in the country. To add a cherry on top, the world class wine destination of McLaren Vale also calls this region home.
If you are self-driving, we highly recommend taking the day to explore this region either on the way to Kangaroo Island or return.
If you’d prefer to leave it to the experts, we have teamed up with a fantastic local operator to provide a small group (or private day trip from Adelaide to Cape Jervis) that can be packaged with our Sea Dragon Experience packages. Read more about it here.
How to get to Sea Dragon
The island is 145km in length from east to west and 55km from north to south, with two major roads intersecting the island. There are many arterial roads which are a mix of sealed and gravel roads.
Arrival time for self-drivers
If you are self-driving, try to arrange your arrival at Sea Dragon during daylight hours. Wildlife is plentiful on the island, particularly at sunrise, sunset and after dark so you will find it much easier and safer to arrive during daylight hours. Check-in time is from 3pm, however, you may enjoy our reception lounge area if arriving before check-in.
