Getting to Kangaroo Island

Commercial Flights

Flights to Kangaroo Island are available daily from Adelaide with Qantas and arrive at Kingscote Airport which is less than an hour from Sea Dragon.

In the summer months, there are also sometimes direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne but flight timetables with Qantas should be checked for up-to-date information.

Private / Charter Flights

Charter Flights from Adelaide with light aircraft or helicopters can also be arranged with the price on application.

Ferry

Ferry services depart the mainland from Cape Jervis and arrive at the Kangaroo Island ferry terminal at Penneshaw. Two ferry companies currently operate with multiple daily services all year round.

Cape Jervis is located two hours south of Adelaide by road and the ferry takes approximately 45 minutes. From the Penneshaw ferry terminal, it is a short 20 to 30-minute drive to Sea Dragon.

Transfers on Kangaroo Island

The island is 145km in length from east to west and 55km from north to south, with two major roads intersecting the island. There are many arterial roads which are a mix of sealed and gravel roads.

Arrival time

If you are self-driving, try to arrange your arrival during daylight hours. Wildlife is plentiful on the island, particularly at sunrise, sunset and after dark so you will find it much easier and safer to arrive during daylight hours. Check-in time is from 3pm, however, you may enjoy our reception lounge area if arriving before check-in.

We provide scheduled and private transfers between Sea Dragon and Penneshaw ferry terminal and Kangaroo Island (Kingscote) Airport.

Scheduled transfers to/from Sea Dragon operate twice daily for the Penneshaw Ferry and meet all incoming and outgoing flights.

Arrival transfers will meet at the Penneshaw Ferry Terminal for the 4.00pm and 6.00pm ferries from Cape Jervis.

Departure transfers will meet the 08:30am and 10:30am ferries from Penneshaw. Those booked on our 2 Night Experience will be dropped in Penneshaw to meet the outgoing5:30pm or 7:30pm ferries. Third party luggage storage is provided for these guests and is at guests’ own risk. Please note this option is for 2 Night Experience guests only.

For any ferry arrival or departures outside of these times, clients will need to pay a supplement for a private transfer.

We can also arrange scheduled coach transfers and private vehicle transfers between Adelaide and Cape Jervis.

Important Notes:

When booking a scheduled transfer, clients will travel with other guests. If a private transfer is booked then clients will pay a supplement for this service and travel on their own private service. Pricing is advertised in our rates tariff.

Those booking a two-night package must book a 3pm (5pm from 29 October) flight or the 5:30pm ferry due to their Taste of Kangaroo Island tour taking place on the final day.
