Sea Dragon Kangaroo Island Featured in The Sydney Morning Herald

We are thrilled to announce that Sea Dragon Kangaroo Island was recently featured in The Sydney Morning Herald! Renowned travel writer David Whitley captured our transformation and dedication to conservation, highlighting us as one of Kangaroo Island’s premier luxury retreats.

Sea Dragon Renovation

Since the new ownership in August 2021, Sea Dragon Kangaroo Island has undergone a complete transformation.

David Whitley noted our revamped rooms, suites, and villas, now featuring panoramic ocean views towards Pink Bay.

As Whitley describes, our king-sized beds and electronically-operated shutters that open to reveal the breathtaking scenery add an undeniable “wow factor” to the guest experience.

Our Commitment to Conservation on Kangaroo Island

At Sea Dragon, luxury meets sustainability. We are dedicated to conserving Kangaroo Island’s precious ecosystem, setting aside 45 hectares of our property as a nature conservancy. Whitley highlighted our efforts to support the critically endangered Kangaroo Island glossy black-cockatoo, with 11 of these rare birds calling Sea Dragon home. Planting sheoak trees, the black-cockatoo’s preferred habitat, is just one of the ways we’re contributing to the preservation of the island’s unique wildlife.

Exclusive Experiences for Guests

Beyond luxury accommodation, Sea Dragon Kangaroo Island offers exclusive, small group tours for guests to discover the island’s natural beauty and vibrant culinary scene. From exploring Seal Bay’s fur seals to enjoying tastings at KI Spirits, the island’s iconic gin distillery, our tailored experiences ensure guests leave with unforgettable memories.

As Whitley writes, Sea Dragon isn’t just a place to retreat—it’s an invitation to discover the many wonders of Kangaroo Island.

Embracing the Island’s Rebirth

One of the most moving aspects of Whitley’s article is the reflection on Kangaroo Island’s recovery from the devastating 2019-2020 bushfires. The island’s natural rebirth, from the resilient vegetation to the sight of koalas and seals thriving again, symbolises the renewal of this beautiful destination. At Sea Dragon Kangaroo Island, we’re proud to be part of this regrowth, not only through our conservation efforts but also by offering guests the chance to witness this inspiring rejuvenation firsthand.
